
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Union Pacific freight train Friday in the south Los Angeles area and the circumstances of the death remained a mystery.
Paramedics sent to the 1600 block of East Vernon Avenue at 11:30 a.m. pronounced the person dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
Information was not immediately available on the identity, age or gender of the fatally injured person.
The circumstances of the death were under investigation. Authorities did not speculate if the death was an accident, suicide or involved foul play.
There was no immediate word of why the victim was hit by the train.
