Authorities Thursday identified a homeless woman who was struck by a Metrolink train and killed in Van Nuys.

Erika Cruz Carranza 33, died at the scene of her injuries that occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday near the 8100 block of North Woodley Avenue, according to the coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Carranza was apparently walking on the tracks when the train hit her, according to spokesman Nicholas Prange of the LAFD. There was no word of why she was walking on the tracks, nor why she did not hear the sounds of the oncoming deadly train.

No further details about the victim or her death were made available. Officials did not disclose whether they believe her death was intentional or an accident.
