A gas main was ruptured during an excavation Thursday in Santa Monica, prompting road closures and the evacuation of about 65 homes.

Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded to the gas leak about 11:40 a.m. in the area of Stanford Street and Lipton Avenue, and a Southern California Gas Co. crew was sent to make repairs, according to a fire department statement.

No injuries were reported and there was no damage to any structures.

Lipton Avenue from Centinela Avenue to Stanford Avenue and the intersection of Franklin Street and Wilshire Boulevard were closed to traffic due to the leak.
