Authorities Sunday investigated the horrifying death of a Harley Davidson motorcycle rider who crashed into a concrete barrier on a downtown Los Angeles freeway transition overpass just before midnight and was thrown from the soaring overpass to the street below.

Officials identified the victim as Richard Barnwell, 53, of Los Angeles,  according to coroner’s Lt. David Smith.

The deadly crash was reported about 11:20 p.m. Thursday on the transition from the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway to the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Barnwell crashed his 2019 Harley into a concrete barrier wall and was ejected, according to the CHP. He went off the soaring overpass and landed on Venice Boulevard below where he was pronounced dead by a Los Angeles Fire Department paramedic, the CHP said.

The crash investigation continued, the CHP said.

No other details about the victim, his bike or what caused the crash were available.
