A 29-year-old man was shot to death on a street in the Athens community of Los Angeles County, authorities said Saturday.
The man was later identified as Manuel Odom Jr., of Los Angeles, according to the coroner’s office.
The shooting was reported at 5:10 p.m. Friday in the 12000 block of Berendo Avenue, according to Deputy Miguel Meza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were called to the scene on a report of assault with a deadly weapon, Meza said.
“Upon arrival, they found the victim lying unresponsive in the street suffering from a gunshot wound,” he said.
Odom was pronounced dead at the scene, Meza said. Suspect information was not available.
Detectives canvassed the area in search of surveillance video and witnesses, he said.
