A crash involving two cars and a cement truck snarled traffic on the San Diego (405) Freeway, leaving one car on its side and diesel fuel to mop up, authorities said Monday.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 9:56 p.m. Sunday on the southbound San Diego Freeway south of Western Avenue.

A witness reported the jack-knifed big rig was leaking fuel and the 15-gallon spill was contained by the Torrance Fire Department, which issued an advisory on social media urging motorists to avoid the area.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shutting down southbound lanes 2, 3 and 4. The SigAlert was canceled about 2:10 a.m.

Tow truck operators told the CHP they were having trouble getting to the scene because they were stuck in traffic.
