A 29-year-old probationer who had her toddler in her car was arrested Wednesday for allegedly driving off in the midst of a traffic stop, nearly injuring an officer, Tustin police reported.
Tatiana Nguyen was pulled over just after midnight for vehicle code violations, according to Sgt. Andy Birozy. As the officers were talking to Nguyen, she drove away, nearly dragging one of the officers alongside the vehicle, Birozy alleged.
A short pursuit followed, but it was cut short because officers were concerned about jeopardizing the safety of the child in Nguyen’s car, Birozy said.
Police tracked down Nguyen at her Santa Ana residence some hours later and arrested her on suspicion of child endangerment and evading police, the sergeant said.
The toddler was taken to Orangewood Children’s home, and Nguyen was being held without bail in the Orange County Jail. She was on formal probation for narcotics and theft-related offenses, Birozy said.
