A 14-year-old Northern California girl struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding a bicycle in Newport Beach was fighting for her life Wednesday.

The collision happened about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday near East Bay and Anade avenues, according to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department.

The girl, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, Manzella said. The teen lives in San Carlos, in San Mateo County.

The girl, who was not wearing a helmet, was riding a beach cruiser-type bicycle along with a group of other bike riders when she was hit by a silver or white Mercedes-Benz, Manzella said.
