A man who apparently jumped from a parking garage onto an Orange County Transportation Authority bus in Santa Ana Wednesday was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, a fire captain said.

One of the agency’s smaller buses was exiting the Santa Ana (5) Freeway at the First Street/Fourth Street offramp at about 10 a.m. when the man, who was not immediately identified, landed on top of it, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

“He partially breached the roof of the bus,” Concialdi said.

The driver pulled over and called 911. Firefighters managed to get the man, who was still talking, off the top of the bus and rushed him to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.

“He’s extremely lucky that he did not hit the freeway,” Concialdi said.
