A “love triangle” dispute in Fullerton Wednesday left one man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and another man battling for his life in an area hospital, police said.

Fullerton police officers on patrol heard gunshots about 1:30 p.m. at Harbor Boulevard and Ash Avenue, and when they responded, one of the men turned the gun on himself, Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel said.

Both men were taken to an area hospital, where one was pronounced dead, Hamel said.

The wounded victim was treated for multiple gunshot wounds and was in serious but stable condition, Hamel said.

Both men were in their late 30s or early 40s, she said.

The man who shot himself was estranged from the woman, who was at the scene of the gunfire, Hamel said. The woman was not injured and was being questioned by police.

It was unclear if they were unmarried.

A parking control officer for the city witnessed the shooting, Hamel said.
