A 24-year-old Irvine man found by police slumped over the wheel of a car rented with a stolen credit card is behind bars on suspicion of identity theft and weapon and drug offenses, Irvine police reported Wednesday.
Jonathan Chen, who’s being held in lieu of $225,000 bail, was booked Sunday night on suspicion of possession of controlled substances for sale, identity theft, possession of a stolen firearm and driving under the influence of drugs, according to Farrah Emami of the Irvine Police Department.
About 7 p.m. Sunday, police found Chen slumped over the wheel of a 2016 Dodge Challenger in a turn lane at Irvine Center Drive and Fontaine, Emami said. A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded firearm, which was reported stolen in a residential burglary in Los Angeles County, she said.
Chen also was allegedly in possession of a scale and methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and various pills, according to Emami, who said the car was rented with a stolen credit card.
