A blaze gutted an abandoned restaurant on the Seal Beach Pier and left a firefighter with an injury, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 7:45 a.m. at the old Ruby’s Restaurant, which is at the end of the approximately 2,000-foot-long pier, authorities said.
The flames were extinguished about 9 a.m., Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said.
An OCFA firefighter suffered an injured shoulder in the firefighting effort, Kurtz said.
Firefighters on the pier and in eight fire boats poured water on the flames, which engulfed the structure and also burned beneath the pier, authorities said.
Among the fire boats that battled the flames were four from the Long Beach Fire Department, three from Los Angeles County and one from the harbor patrol. Two Los Angeles Fire Department fire boats also were requested. About 70 firefighters were sent to the scene.
