Fullerton police Thursday released surveillance camera photos of a suspect who has stolen at least $180,000 from bank accounts belonging to victims throughout the Southland.
The thief uses forged driver’s licenses and Social Security cards to illegally withdraw money, according to Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel.
A victim who lives in Fullerton called police in February reporting he had money taken from his bank account, she said.
When Fullerton detectives began investigating, they found links to the same suspect for a similar theft in Carlsbad and two in Los Angeles, Hamel said.
Investigators from the FBI and the other law enforcement agencies suspect there may be many more victims, she said.
The Los Angeles thefts occurred last summer and the suspect was seen driving a gold BMW SUV.
The suspect appears to be 65 to 80 years old and has gray hair. He is white, about 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall and weighs about 180 to 190 pounds.
Anyone with information was asked to call detectives at (714) 738-6880.
