Authorities Thursday were trying to solve the mystery of a naked man’s body pulled to shore by a surfer in Huntington Beach.
Orange County Sheriff-Coroner investigators managed to identify the dead man as 20-year-old Andy Guevara of South Gate. But they don’t know how, where or why he died, nor what the body was doing floating in the ocean just off the beach, according to the sheriff-coroner’s office.
There was also no word of the reaction to the horror that the unidentified surfer may have experienced in discovering the body and having to pull it to shore before contacting authorities.
Police were notified at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday about the discovery of the body near Pacific Coast Highway and Seapoint, according to Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt.
“He had been in the water for some time,” Marlatt said.
The victim was nude and there were no outward signs of trauma to consider his death suspicious, Marlatt said.
State park rangers have taken over the investigation, she said.
