A teenage boy remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday after being struck by a minivan while riding a bicycle in a hit-and-run crash in Anaheim, authorities said.
“It’s very sad,” a nearby security guard who heard the sounds of the crash said. “I pray for his life.”
The incident was reported at 10:54 p.m. Sunday on Brookhurst Street at Ball Road, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. The teen, who had been wearing a helmet, suffered “significant injuries” and was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was displaying stable vital signs, he said.
The van was described as an early-to-mid 2000s gray Dodge Caravan or similar mini-van, with front-end damage consistent with striking a bicycle, the sergeant said, adding that the driver was described as a man in his 30s to 40s.
Adegoke Adejayan was working as a security guard and was inside his vehicle parked near the scene when the crash occurred. He told City News Service he heard a sound and saw the bicyclist “tumble over,” then saw the minivan speeding away.
