A 49-year-old man was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for attempting to rape his autistic adult stepdaughter in Placentia.
Joseph Seion Schuler pleaded guilty Nov. 9. He initially was also charged with one count each of raping an incompetent person and rape, but those felony counts were dismissed Friday.
The victim was 27, with the mental equivalent of a 13-year-old due to her disability, according to Placentia police Capt. Eric Point.
Officers responded to a call of a sexual assault in progress at the defendant’s apartment in the 200 block of South Highland Avenue the night of July 31, he said.
Schuler initially refused to leave the apartment, prompting negotiations that led to his surrender about two hours later, the captain said.
