A deputy fired on — but did not hit — a hammer-wielding parolee who then quickly surrendered in an unincorporated area north of Tustin Monday.
A report of a man in bushes with a backpack drew the deputy to the 12000 block of Vista Panorama about 6 a.m., according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Mark Stichter.

Donald Deangelis, 52, displayed a large hammer as the deputy approached him, prompting the lawman to fire two rounds — neither of which struck the suspect, who immediately was taken into custody, Stichter said.
Deangelis was booked on suspicion of violating parole and possession of a deadly weapon, Stichter said.
