A 45-year-old ex-con sex offender who was naked when arrested and then admitted peeping at and molesting some of his victims in Costa Mesa has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Jeffrey Robert Smith of Costa Mesa pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree burglary and single counts each of assault with intent to commit a sex offense and inflicting injury on an elder adult, all felonies.

Smith also pleaded guilty to multiple misdemeanor counts of touching an intimate part of another person, indecent exposure, peeping, disorderly conduct, aggravated trespass and lewd conduct in a public place.

Smith was already a convicted sex offender when he was charged in August 2015. He was ordered Friday after his sentence was handed down to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Smith broke into at least three homes and touched two females and one male in a sexual manner from May through July 16, Deputy District Attorney Bobby Taghavi said when the defendant was charged in 2015.

On at least one occasion, Smith touched himself outside a victim’s home, Taghavi said.

Smith was arrested July 16, 2015, naked on a resident’s porch in the 2100 block of Orange Avenue, according to Costa Mesa police.

In April 2015, Smith was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender in Costa Mesa and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, according to police. Smith was arrested again in Costa Mesa in May 2015 on suspicion of battery and trespassing, police said.
