A 19-year-old transient is scheduled to be arraigned June 30 on a murder charge stemming from the brutal stabbing death of a Santa Ana man in Garden Grove last week, court records obtained Wednesday show.
Daniel Jones-Hoebel was charged Tuesday with murder, with a sentencing enhancement allegation for the personal use of a deadly weapon. He faces up to 26 years to life in prison if convicted.
Garden Grove police also arrested Antonio Esquivel, 21, of Garden Grove, in connection with the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Genaro Diaz. But he was released from the Orange County Jail on Tuesday, according to Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney, who said prosecutors declined to bring a case against Esquivel at this time.
Diaz was stabbed in the chest about 9:15 p.m. Friday in the 12800 block of Haster Street, Whitney said. Police have not offered a motive for the crime, nor did they provide any other details.
