Police Thursday announced the arrest of an underage suspect who was caught on video surveillance burglarizing a home in the Woodbury neighborhood of Irvine.
The suspect was arrested in San Bernardino County on Wednesday afternoon, said Kim Mohr of the Irvine Police Department. Police did not release his name or age.
The crime occurred on July 31 about 12:30 p.m., when the suspect smashed the rear sliding glass door of a home in the 20 block of Royal Grove, Mohr said.
While the youth was inside the residence, a babysitter returned with a child who lives at the home, and the intruder ran down a staircase, ran past the babysitter and fled through an open garage door, Mohr said.
On the day after the crime, police released surveillance video images of the burglar.
“Tips that came in after video of the crime was aired by several media outlets ultimately led police to the suspect’s location,” Mohr said.
