A bat found near Laguna Niguel Regional Park tested positive for rabies, county officials reported Tuesday.
Anyone who may have made contact with the bat, which was found near the entrance to the park on Friday, was asked to call the Orange County Health Care Agency so they can be tested for rabies.
A bat’s teeth are small so a bite might go unnoticed, according to the HCA. When symptoms are displayed, the disease is nearly always deadly. Preventive treatment, however, is “safe and effective,” health officials said.
The agency can be reached at (714) 834-8180.
