A driver who was shot multiple times crashed his truck into several parked cars and a power pole Thursday morning, knocking out power to several residents in a Santa Ana neighborhood.

Police received a call at 12:47 a.m. about a vehicle-versus-a pole crash at 818 S. Townsend St., said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Michael Claborn.

Responding officers found the driver, whose age was not disclosed, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Claborn said.

There was no immediate information about a shooter and investigators were trying to determine if the victim was shot by a pedestrian or if this was a car-to-car shooting, according to Claborn.

The impact of the crash into the pole knocked out power within a two- block radius, from the 700 block to the 900 block of Townsend Street, Claborn said.

Southern California Edison was on scene Thursday morning working to restore power to the neighborhood, Claborn said.
