The search for a swimmer who went missing near the Huntington Beach Pier turned up no sign of the young woman.
Jessy Cook, 18, was last seen about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday on or near the pier, and a multi-agency search was initiated, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. Some of the teen’s belongings reportedly were found on the pier.
The search was suspended about 10:30 a.m., the agency reported.
“The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for approximately 11 hours covering nearly 137 square nautical miles,” a Coast Guard statement said.
The search, using boats and at least one helicopter, included Huntington Beach lifeguards and personnel from the Huntington Beach Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Divers on what was described as a recovery operation were later recalled after their search turned up no sign of the teen.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach command center at (310) 521-3801.
