A woman who suffered fatal injuries when her car veered off State Route 86 and smashed into a tree in Coachella was identified Monday as a 32-year-old Anaheim resident.
Adelina Bianca Enriquez was pronounced dead at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton about 2 1/2 hours after the crash, which occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday, according to Investigator Gabriel Morales of the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
Enriquez was traveling southbound on SR 86 just south of Interstate 10 when, for reasons still under investigation, her Honda Civic drifted off the roadway and collided with a tree, then burst into flames, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A passerby stopped and pulled Enriquez out of the car. She was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save her, Morales said.
The CHP was investigating the cause of the crash, including whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
