Two big rigs and a pickup truck were involved in a fiery crash on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Burbank Tuesday morning that closed a stretch of the freeway for hours.
The crash, which was reported about 1:50 a.m. near Burbank Boulevard, spread debris across all lanes of the freeway and one of the big rigs caught fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Burbank firefighters extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported.
The impact of the crash caused the axles to break off one of the big rigs, according to the CHP.
Traffic was diverted off the northbound 5 Freeway at Empire Avenue. About 7 a.m., the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes were later reopened, but the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes remained blocked, along with the Scott Road offramp. About 9 a.m., all remaining closures were lifted, the CHP reported.
