A brush fire that broke out Friday afternoon on the south side of Jurupa Valley scorched just under an acre before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 3:15 p.m. between Pedley Road and Clay Street, just north of the Santa Ana River bottom, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
A half-dozen engine crews encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through thick vegetation, not immediately threatening any homes or other structures. The brusher ran into a natural barrier in the form of sand piles, and firefighters were able to fully contain it at 3:35 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
