Nearly 2,500 customers lost power Wednesday in several Coachella Valley communities.

The latest outage was reported about 11:30 a.m. and was affecting an estimated 945 customers in Palm Desert, according to the Imperial Irrigation District.

The outage was reported at the community of Sun City, between Washington and Adams streets near the Mountain Vista Golf Club. The IID did not specify whether the outage was wind-related, nor did the utility give an estimated time of restoration.

Earlier outages reported Wednesday morning in IID’s service area were “weather-related,” according to IID spokesman Robert Schettler.

One of those outages was reported about 8:30 a.m. in the unincorporated community of Bermuda Dunes and the cities of Indio and La Quinta, affecting an estimated 1,257 customers. Power was restored to those customers less than an hour later, Schettler said.

Another 234 customers lost power for about two hours starting about 5:20 a.m. in the unincorporated community of Thermal.

Winds are expected to gradually weaken across Riverside County Wednesday, one day after slashing Santa Ana gusts wreaked havoc in the region, toppling power lines, pushing over big rigs and tearing the roof off an apartment building. In the Coachella Valley, winds of 20 to 30 mph are forecast.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the region through midnight due to potential heavy rainfall.
