Police Friday sought the public’s help to locate a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Irvine.

Irvine Police Department officers were called about 9:05 p.m. Thursday to the Von Karman Avenue and Michelson Drive, near the San Diego (405) Freeway, on reports of a collision and found Saman Vakili Mafakhery injured at the scene.

Orange County Fire Authority paramedics were called and pronounced Mafakhery dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation into the collision revealed Mafakhery was walking in the area when a vehicle driving southbound on Von Karman Avenue struck him and continued through the intersection without stopping, according to Irvine police.

The suspect vehicle was described as a silver Acura TL with possible damage to its right front portion. No description of the driver was available.

Anyone with information on the collision was asked to call Irvine Police Department Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047.
