Southern California will get a little relief from the extreme heat beginning Saturday evening.
An excessive heat warning for the Antelope Valley expired at 8 p.m. Saturday, but triple-digit temperatures are still in the forecast for the valleys.
Highs are expected from the low 90s to 100 degrees over the next couple of days in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys before the mercury begins to taper off mid-week.
Inland areas of Orange County will have highs that top out in the 80s and low 90s through the middle of the week.
Health officials reminded the public to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors, and to not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. They further urge people to stay out of the sun if possible, avoid strenuous activity, and stay hydrated. Residents are also reminded to never leave children or pets inside vehicles for any time at all, as unattended vehicles can turn into death traps in mere minutes when temperatures rise.
