(This corrects a story that ran May 27, 2021 that should have identified the fatally injured driver as being behind the wheel of the Ford Edge rather than the Toyota Corolla.)

An investigation was underway into a collision at a Moreno Valley intersection that left a 17-year-old motorist dead.

Logan Edwards of Winchester was fatally injured about 3:10 p.m. May 26 at Bay Avenue and Day Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said that the driver of a 2014 Toyota Corolla was heading eastbound on Bay, possibly in excess of the speed limit, and failed to stop for a stop sign. The Toyota entered the intersection, where it struck Edwards’ 2012 Ford Edge.

“The Toyota struck the Ford’s driver’s side, causing it to collide with a nearby residential fence,” according to a sheriff’s statement.

The driver of the Corolla suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Riverside University Medical Center for treatment. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics less than 10 minutes later.

There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Day Street was closed between Brill Road and Sherman Avenue for several hours after the crash, sheriff’s officials said.

The driver of the Corolla was not named and the investigation was ongoing.
