The number of COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Riverside County continued to decline, while 672 new cases were confirmed and 11 new virus-related deaths were reported in the latest data.
According to the Riverside University Health System, COVID-related hospitalizations countywide dropped to 229 Thursday, compared to 243 on Wednesday. The number of those patients in intensive care was 57, down from 61 on Wednesday.
The cumulative number of COVID cases recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 stood at 361,794 as of Thursday, up from 361,122 on Wednesday.
Officials said on Thursday a total 5,129 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the past roughly 19 months. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back a month, sometimes longer.
The number of known active virus cases countywide Thursday was 3,181, down 141 from Wednesday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 361,794 — according to the county Executive Office.
Verified patient recoveries countywide were 353,484.
