The 8th annual Rancho Mirage Writers Festival has been postponed until 2023 due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, it was announced Tuesday.

The festival, initially scheduled to start on Jan. 25 at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory, was unanimously pushed back to February 2023 by the event’s board of directors.

The festival had assembled over 70 authors and special guests to talk about topics from politics, history, humor and health to genre and literary fiction, according to organizers.

“The safety of our authors, VIP angels, readers, staff and hard-working festival partners are always our top priority,” said festival founder, Jamie Kabler.

“Even though the festival had taken every precaution available to ensure only fully vaccinated individuals attended or worked the event, the recent surge and uncertainty necessitates we practice extreme caution at this time.”

Sponsors and passes will be transferred to the 2023 event, which will be held from Feb. 1-3. For more information, visit
