The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in Riverside County increased by two to 93, according to the latest state figures out Saturday.
The number of those patients in intensive care was 11, up from 10 on Friday.
The county’s patients totals have been gradually increasing over the past several weeks. Health officials have noted that many COVID-positive patients were admitted to hospitals for reasons other than the virus.
The most recent county Department of Public Health figures available indicated that, among those hospitalized with a COVID diagnosis, 17% had been fully vaccinated with a SARS-CoV-2 therapeutic.
Officials said the aggregate number of COVID cases recorded since the public health documentation period began in March 2020 is 612,967.
The Riverside University Health System said a total 6,538 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the past 26 months. A week ago, the figure was 6,532. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to officials.
The number of known active virus cases in the county, based on available data, is 4,163, compared to 2,375 one week ago. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 612,967 — according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are now 602,266.
The RUHS does not report COVID data on weekends.
