A Riverside resident died in a house fire Wednesday on the east end of the city.
The fatality occurred shortly after 9 a.m. in the 2600 block of Bowie Court, near Victoria Avenue, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
Battalion Chief Bruce Vanderhorst said three engine crews and a truck company were sent to the location and encountered flames in one of the rooms within the single-story residence.
“Crews found a civilian fatality at the scene,” Vanderhorst said, adding that the blaze was knocked down in 10 minutes.
It was not immediately clear whether the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, died from smoke exposure, was burned, or suffered unspecified complications that prevented an evacuation from the house.
Vanderhorst said arson personnel and police were handling the investigation.
Police spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
