A 15-year-old boy was gunned down in San Jacinto, and detectives Tuesday were working to identify the shooter.
The deadly attack happened Sunday morning in the area of First Street and Sheriff Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Steve Brosche said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was involved in an unspecified confrontation that culminated in gunfire.
Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies arrived minutes later, learning that the mortally wounded teenager had “fled into an empty field,” Brosche said.
He said that the teen was found dead in the field.
The shooter was nowhere to be found, and no description was available Tuesday.
A possible motive was not disclosed.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
