Despite failing to make it to the World Series with the highest-paid team in major league baseball, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was named Thursday the 2016 Coach of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
In his first season leading the Dodgers, Roberts had some success as he led the team to a Western Division title and an appearance in the National League Championship Series. He was named National League Manager of the Year, becoming the first Dodger skipper to win the honor since Tommy Lasorda in 1988.
He will be recognized at the 12th annual L.A. Sports Awards ceremony Feb. 27 at the Beverly Hilton.
Nine-time Olympic track-and-field medalist Allyson Felix was named Sportswoman of the Year.
