The Los Angeles City Council honored the Narbonne High School football team Wednesday for winning its second state championship in three years.
“These are young men that Narbonne High School really developed, and showed the importance of having high moral character both on and off the field,” Councilman Joe Buscaino said.
The Gauchos defeated Pittsburg, from the East San Francisco Bay Area, 28-21, in the CIF State Division 1-A final Dec. 16, becoming the second Los Angeles Unified School District team to win a state football championship. Narbonne’s championship two years ago was the first.
“I want to again congratulate the Narbonne football team for another amazing season, said LAUSD board member Richard Vladovic, whose district includes the school. “This amazing group of student-athletes, led by one of the finest high school coaching staffs in the nation, have yet again made their city and their district proud.”
