LAFC delivered yet another title to Tinseltown this year, following the Rams’ Super Bowl victory in February, by defeating the Philadelphia Union in a penalty kick shootout at the end of regulation.

LAFC hosted Major League Soccer’s championship game at Banc of California Stadium, and beat Philadelphia 2-0 in a penalty kick shootout after the teams ended regular play tied at 3-3. In a post-match ceremony, broadcasters dubbed it the greatest game in MLS history.

Both teams were the top seed from their respective conferences, marking the first such title matchup since 2003. LAFC and the Union each finished the regular season with 67 points, but LAFC got the top seed based on its total number of wins.

It was LAFC’s fifth meeting with the Union in club history, with LAFC having won once and tying the other three times, including a 2-2 draw on May 7 at home.
