The latest big-screen incarnation of King King had a monster of an opening weekend, earning more than $61 million to debut at first place at North American theaters, according to final figures released Monday.

Luke-warm reviews didn’t seem to matter, as “Kong: Skull Island” easily bested the X-Men sequel “Logan,” which took second place with $38.1 million, according to box-office tracker comScore.

“Get Out” took third place with $20.7 million, followed by the drama “The Shack” with $10 million and “The Lego Batman Movie” with $7.6 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Before I Fall” ($3 million); “Hidden Figures” ($2.8 million); “John Wick: Chapter Two” ($2.7 million); “The Metropolitan Opera: La Traviata” (a one-night live event that grossed $1.8 million); and “La La Land” ($1.77 million).
