Remains found in the Grand Canyon area in Arizona are believed to be those of a 72-year-old Los Angeles man who went missing in June, authorities said Thursday.

Evidence located at the scene by rangers indicate the remains are those of Raafat “Ralph” Nasser-Eddin, according to the U.S. National Park Service.

The remains were found Wednesday by members of a private river trip who were on a day hike in the  drainage, officials said.

Nasser-Eddin had been reported missing on June 13, having last been seen near Hermit Camp on the Hermit Trail on the morning of June 11, according to the park service.

“A multi-day search effort in extreme heat of summer for Mr. Nasser- Eddin did not produce any clues to his whereabouts,” according to a park service statement.

The remains were found about 2 1/2 miles from where Nasser-Eddin had last been seen, officials said.

The park service and Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office are working to confirm that the remains are those of Nasser-Eddin.
