The nomination period opened Friday for the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, with new criteria in place in response to calls to tighten up the requirements for applicants.

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 31 for those looking to apply under seven categories: humanitarian, entertainment, civic/pioneer, architects/artists, sports star, military and literary.

With more than 400 stars on display in downtown Palm Springs, city officials and residents sought to raise the standards for new stars to consider those with more widespread prominence than previously sought, while also having a connection to the city. The price for a star was also raised from $10,000 to $15,000.

“We are excited about the new criteria and anxious to unveil the new look for the Palm Springs Walk of Stars,” Palm Springs Chamber CEO Nona Watson said. “We encourage everyone who is vying for a star to submit their application as soon as possible.”

Nominations are considered at the annual Palm Springs Walk of Stars committee meeting in September.

Nomination forms can be found on the Palm Springs Chamber website at pschamber.org, under the drop down menu “Walk of the Stars.” All nominations must include a photo of the nominee, a brief bio and list of qualifications and contributions to the communit,y and a letter of agreement from the nominee.
