A Los Angeles County sheriff’s helicopter Saturday airlifted an injured hiker to safety in Bailey Canyon Wilderness Park in Sierra Madre, authorities said.

The hiker was reported missing about 2:50 p.m. in the 400 block of West Carter Avenue, fire officials said.

The sheriff’s department posted video on Twitter of a tactical medic being lowered into the canyon to tend to the hiker, who had fallen 40 feet. He was airlifted to safety about 3:45 p.m. and taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

It was unclear what injuries the hiker suffered. Neither were there details about the hiker or the cause of the incident.
