A firefighter was taken to a hospital Thursday evening with non-life threatening injuries from a wildfire that broke out Thursday afternoon just east of Lake Mathews and charred about 60 acres.
The blaze was caused by a non-injury motorcycle accident and was reported at 2:55 p.m. in the 19000 block of Gustin Road, near Harley John Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Eighteen engine crews and five hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames in open space, burning at a moderate rate to the northeast.
With the aid of two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter, the fire’s rate of spread was stopped by 4:30 p.m., and firefighters were making steady progress completely encircling the blaze.
Full containment of the 60.4-acre fire was achieved about 8:30 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies were blocking part of Gustin Road to facilitate emergency crews and their equipment.
