Local nonprofits were invited Friday to apply for a slice of $300,000 in grant funding that will be disbursed next year.

The Palm Desert-based H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, in conjunction with KESQ-TV, will accept applications for next year’s Coachella Valley Spotlight awards until Sept. 18.

Twelve organizations will be chosen to receive $25,000 each.

“We look forward to this unique grant-making process every year,” Catharine Reed, vice president of charitable programs for the foundation, said.

“There is so much good work happening in our area. We usually receive about 100 applications, so selecting only 12 recipients is difficult, but when we see the grant funds in action, it is very rewarding.”

The grants are open to any nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations or tax-exempt schools that serve people in the Coachella Valley. Past grant recipients can reapply.

Since the program began, more than $3 million in funding has been distributed to more than 100 local nonprofit organizations.

Winners also receive coverage on KESQ’s “Eye on the Desert” program as well as other publicity by the television station.
