A fire that erupted Wednesday in the garage of a Beaumont home caused major damage to the residence, displacing the occupants, who were not hurt.

The blaze was reported at about 1:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of Tanglewood Court, near Hidden Oaks Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said six engine crews were sent to the location and encountered fire raging in the garage of the single-story house, from which the two adult occupants and their two dogs safely evacuated.

The flames were contained less than an hour later, but smoke and other damage to the residence was extensive, officials said.

Red Cross personnel were requested to assist the victims with finding temporary lodging, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
