“The Bad Guys” kept its hold on the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend, grossing $16.1 million in its second weekend at North American theaters, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The DreamWorks animated film, based on a series of children’s books about a group of lawbreaking animals who attempt to reform, was ahead of another children’s movie, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” which made $11.3 million in its fourth weekend in theaters, Comscore reported.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” kept its spot in third place with $8.3 million Friday through Sunday in its third week of release.

The Viking epic “The Northman” also kept its spot from last weekend, coming in fourth with $6.3 million, ahead of “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which grossed $5.5 million in its sixth week.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “”The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” ($3.92 million), “The Lost City” ($3.9 million), “Memory” ($3.1 million), “Father Stu” ($2.2 million) and “Morbius” ($1.5 million).

Theaters are expecting to do far more business next weekend, when Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” opens. The sequel to 2016’s “Doctor Strange” is projected to earn massive grosses.
