Los Angeles residents will awake Saturday to dense fog and high surf conditions that could make driving and swimming dangerous.

A dense fog advisory is in effect until 9 a.m., and a high surf advisory through noon on Sunday.

The National Weather Service said a large, long period west-northwest swell originating from a storm in the Gulf of Alaska will bring 5-10 foot waves with local sets as high as 12 feet high to many west and northwest-facing beaches. Dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves are also be expected.

The forecast for central Los Angeles from Malibu to Long Beach calls for dense fog through mid morning then partly cloudy conditions with highs from around 70 at the beaches to 80 inland. Lows overnight will be in the 50s.
