The Coroner’s Office Sunday released the names of the two men who were killed their vehicle was struck by a freight train in the Lancaster area.

The fatalities were identified as Quartz Hill residents Brittan Nolte, 30, and Jeffrey Russ, 37, according to the coroner’s office.

Paramedics sent to Avenue I and Sierra Highway at 5:14 a.m. Friday pronounced both men dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

It was unclear whether the vehicle was parked on the tracks or attempting to cross when it was struck.
