A 38-year-old man who emailed a nude image of a Pasadena high school science teacher to hundreds of students and adults, apparently because he was upset over the end of his relationship with the victim, bailed out of Los Angeles County jail Thursday after his arrest last week in Oregon.
Detectives began investigating the case on July 10, when the image was emailed from an account associated with John Muir High School.
A criminal investigation revealed that the emails were not sent by the victim, who was out of the county when they were sent, said Pasadena police Lt. Terysa Rojas.
“Further investigation revealed the emails were sent by (the victim’s) estranged partner, David A. Galvan … who had unlawfully accessed (the teacher’s) Pasadena Unified School District email account,” Rojas said. “Suspect Galvan was reportedly angry over the relationship ending when he distributed the obscene pictures.”
The case was filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on July 24 and a $110,000 warrant was issued alleging false impersonation and identity theft, both felonies; misdemeanor Internet/electronic impersonation and two misdemeanor counts of transmitting obscene matter, Rojas said.
Galvan was detained in Hillsboro, Oregon on Oct. 21 and was transported to the Pasadena City Jail on Wednesday, she said.
Galvan was transferred into sheriff’s custody but was released at 4:10 p.m. today after posting unspecified bond, according to sheriff’s online inmate records.
Galvan is due in court in Pasadena on Nov. 21, according to sheriff’s records.
