Unannounced inspections of commercial ground transportation vehicles, including limousines, door-to-door shuttle vans, taxis and buses, were taking place Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport.
The multi-agency operation began at 7:30 a.m. and was scheduled to continue through 12:30 p.m., said airport police Sgt. Belinda Nettles.
“The inspections of commercial vehicles entail both mechanical and administrative requirements,” Nettles said.
Mechanical inspections include ensuring that vehicles have proper safety equipment and that there are no vehicle code violations.
Administrative inspections include ensuring that operators have proper driver’s licenses and airport operating permits.
The inspections were being conducted at several locations:
— Limousine Holding Lot, at Westchester Parkway and Jenny Street;
— LAX Parking Lot F, at Avion Drive and Century Boulevard; and
— Upper/Departures level on the east end of Terminal 7.
Inspectors were using portable computers to check registrations and operating permits. Non-compliant vehicles can be impounded and towed.
